EDT Driving lessons are "Beginner Level" Driving Lessons and should NOT be considered as Pre Test Driving Lessons.
EDT, or Essential Driver Training, is the RSA minimum requirement for learners who got their provisional licence after April 2011. The requirement is to take a minimum of 12 hours with an ADI. This needs to be supplemented by 60 to 80 hours of independent driving before a student considers themselves at Driving Test Standard.

The process of getting a car learner driver permit (cat b) starts by:
Licence:
AGE: You must be over 17 years of age
Theory Test: you must have passed a theory test in category B in the last 2 years (expires after 2 years) current Theory Test FEE €45
Medical Form: You must have a Medical form completed and signed by your doctor, and a new medical form completed and signed by your doctor for every licence renewal and new licence upgrade
Photographs: you must have two photographs witnessed and signed and stamped by The Garda
Application Form: you must complete and sign the completed application form and have the form signed and stamped in your Garda station
Fee: The current fee is €35 for a Learner Permit

Theory Test Requirements :
Before you apply for your Learner Permit you must have the Relevant Theory Test passed, It must be for the category for the permit that you are applying for.
